Hello, fellow dog lovers! Today I want to share something a bit different – the story of how Fentons came to be, and why we're so passionate about what we do.
It Started With a Conversation
Fentons wasn't born in a boardroom or a business school. It started around a kitchen table, over cups of tea (and a few dogs snoozing at our feet), when a group of friends got talking about our pets.
We all work in FMCG – that's Fast Moving Consumer Goods for the uninitiated – but in completely different categories. Food, household products, health and beauty. We know how supply chains work. We know how products get made. And we know what goes on behind the scenes that consumers never see.
That's when the conversation turned to pet supplements.
The Problem We Couldn't Ignore
One of our dogs had been dealing with joint issues, and we'd been researching supplements. What we found was... frustrating. Vague ingredient lists. Unclear sourcing. Products that promised the world but couldn't tell you where they were actually made or to what standards.
Where does this stuff actually come from?
The more we dug, the more concerned we became. So much of the pet supplement market is manufactured in facilities where standards vary wildly, with ingredients sourced from who-knows-where, and transparency treated as an afterthought.
We asked ourselves: Would we take supplements made like this? Would we give them to our children?
The answer was no. So why were we giving them to our dogs?
Deciding to Do Something About It
That conversation could have ended with a shrug and another cup of tea. But it didn't.
We had the knowledge. We had the contacts in manufacturing and supply chain. We had dogs we loved who deserved better. So we asked: what if we made something ourselves?
Not as a side project. Not cutting corners to make a quick profit. But properly – the way we'd want it done if our families were consuming it.
Finding the Right Partners
From day one, we knew we wanted to manufacture in Europe. Not because there's anything inherently wrong with other regions, but because we wanted:
- Shorter supply chains – we can visit our manufacturing partners, build real relationships, and ensure quality firsthand
- Rigorous standards – European manufacturing regulations are among the strictest in the world
- Full traceability – we know exactly where every ingredient comes from
- Accountability – if something goes wrong, we can address it immediately
We spent months researching facilities, having conversations, and visiting potential partners. We weren't looking for the cheapest option – we were looking for the right option.
GMP+ Certification: What It Actually Means
You'll see 'GMP' on a lot of products. But what does it actually mean?
GMP stands for Good Manufacturing Practice – it's a system that ensures products are consistently produced and controlled according to quality standards. GMP+ takes this further, with additional requirements specifically for feed (including pet food and supplements).
For us, GMP+ certification means:
- Documented procedures – every step of production follows strict protocols
- Quality control at every stage – from raw ingredients to finished product
- Traceability – we can trace every batch back to its source ingredients
- Regular audits – independent verification that standards are maintained
- Contamination prevention – rigorous cleaning and separation procedures
- Staff training – everyone involved understands and follows quality standards
This isn't just a badge we put on packaging. It's the foundation of everything we do.
Almost a Year of Development
We didn't rush to market. From that first kitchen table conversation to our launch last summer, we spent almost a full year developing our products.
That time was spent:
- Researching ingredients – not just what works, but what works at what dosages, backed by actual science
- Developing formulations – working with nutritional experts to create effective recipes
- Testing and refining – multiple iterations to get the taste, texture, and efficacy right
- Sourcing quality ingredients – finding suppliers who met our standards
- Setting up proper quality control – ensuring every batch would be consistent
You can see the result of all this work in our product range. We're transparent about what goes into each treat and why.
The Day Our Products Arrived
There's a particular feeling when months of work finally becomes real. When the first shipment arrived – boxes of actual Fentons products, with our labels, made to our specifications – it was genuinely emotional.

Opening those boxes and seeing our full range laid out for the first time... that was the moment it stopped being a project and became a proper business.
Here's a glimpse of our products on the production line – this is where the magic happens:
Every tub represented countless hours of development, dozens of conversations with manufacturers, and one simple goal: creating supplements we'd be proud to give our own dogs.
What We Stand For
A year on from launch, our principles haven't changed:
Transparency – We tell you exactly what's in our products and where they're made. No vague claims, no hidden ingredients.
Quality – European manufacturing, GMP+ certification, traceable ingredients. We don't compromise on standards.
Efficacy – Ingredients at effective dosages, based on nutritional science. Not pixie-dust amounts just to put something on the label.
Honesty – We won't claim our products cure diseases or work miracles. They're supplements – they support your dog's health alongside proper nutrition and veterinary care.
From Dog Lovers to Dog Lovers
At the end of the day, Fentons exists because a group of friends who love their dogs couldn't find products that met their standards. So we made our own.
Every decision we make comes back to one question: Would we give this to our own dogs?
If the answer isn't an enthusiastic yes, we don't do it.
Thank you for being part of our journey. Whether you've been with us since day one or you're just discovering Fentons, we're grateful you're here.
Here's to happy, healthy dogs everywhere.
